Editorial Photo Essay
Germany 2012/13
One of the largest groups of people seeking refugee status in Europe over the last have decades have been Afghans. Many slipped over Iran, Turkey and Greece into Germany where they often face an uphill battle in order to stay. Many of the men say they worked for the Americans, or sympathized with them in the hope of a better future, others simply seek to escape the violence, while a younger generation is sometimes sent by family members to seek a better life in Europe. This images are of the Afghan housing in the asylum center in the eastern German city of Eisenhüttenstadt.
